Urogynecology Services

The field of pelvic health care and reconstructive surgery for women – also known as urogynecology – is becoming better known as it offers hope for problems that are more common than you might think. Over 20 million women in the US women suffer from urinary incontinence.

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles and tissues that form a sling across the pelvis, holding the uterus, bladder, bowel, and other pelvic organs in place. It can become weak or hurt due to pregnancy and giving birth. Extra weight, radiation, surgery, heavy lifting, strong coughing, and getting older may lead to pelvic floor problems, too.

At Virginia Center for Women, we can restore your quality of life by helping with:

Pelvic organ prolapse – When the pelvic muscles and tissue can no longer support one or more pelvic organs, they may drop or press into the vagina. This includes vaginal prolapse, bladder prolapse, uterine prolapse, and rectal prolapse.

Bladder control problems – The leakage of urine, called urinary incontinence, can happen in women or men when the bladder falls from its proper place. You may also feel a sudden, strong urge to urinate.
